I’ve seen this type of thing before but not related to publishing. Each time I see it, it strikes me how creative these people must be. Click on the video, and be sure to watch it at least half-way through.

Penguin turns traditional thought on its head: “The Future of Publishing”

2724022032_3e1c691b98_b The folks at Penguin books had a video produced for an internal presentation that’s truly brilliant in its message and how it is presented. The intent was to make viewers think differently about the future of the publishing industry.

It is a wonderful way to look at an idea, an audience, or an industry–in a turn-tradition-on-its-head kind of way.

  1. Interesting point, Chris. I’m all for less paper, more trees. What’s also interesting is that so many forward-thinking, futurist techies prefer to write things down than to ‘memo’ it on their smart phones or read it back electronically. I do like the feel of reading a book vs reading an ebook – but maybe technology will change enough to make it more visually palatable. 🙂

  2. What a creative execution! Must have been terribly difficult to write. But I think it’s focusing on the wrong message. I don’t think anyone is really talking about “books” in the sense of content being dead or people not reading anymore. It’s just a new distribution model without a solid business plan. Books (referring to engaging content) aren’t going to die but the paper they are written on might.
